That’s my new job title, apparently.
This past weekend, Michael and Justin were on their way to Italy and decided to spend a couple days here in New York City beforehand.
In the 8+ years I’ve known them, I’ve only ever seen them when I’d been to Orlando, never had they been here. It was bizarre to see them in my environment for a change, and I felt so much pressure to show them all that NYC has to offer in the short weekend they would be here. Justin had been before (about a decade ago), but this was Michael’s first visit, and I felt the pressure to make sure they saw everything.
And I think I got a little overly ambitious with my itinerary. Yes, I crossed off almost all of the must-see sights and their wish list of things to see. But at what cost?
After the trip, my curiosity got the better of me and I mapped out everywhere that we walked (yes, walked), and it turns out we walked over twenty miles (not counting the additional miles we walked within the museums and other spots we visited) within the span of their 54 hours here.

So yes, we saw a lot. And yes, they’ll probably never speak to me again unless it’s to give me their podiatry bills. But it reminded me of how diverse and fantastic my city is, and I loved being able to show it off to such dear friends.
And I can’t wait until they come back again so I can show them twenty more miles of the best city on the planet!
