The City of Blizzardly Love
I’m back from my weekend in Philadelphia, and while it didn’t go exactly as planned, it was still lovely to get away from the city and the job for a couple days, see a friend I haven’t seen in a few years, and just enjoy the excitement that comes with traveling and experiencing places with which you are less familiar.
There was one point at the last minute where it looked like the trip wouldn’t happen at all. An hour before I was due aboard my bus, I got an email from them saying my reservations had been cancelled due to an impending snow. I thought it was just going to be your basic, run of the mill snow and was a little angry that they were canceling for something that I assumed was nothing more than a little bit of snow, so immediately went into Plan B mode and found an alternate way there via the trains. Sure, it was twice as expensive, but by this point I was already mentally on my little weekend getaway and nothing was going to stop me.
Cut to a couple hours later and I arrive in Philadelphia. I ascend the steps of the train station to come above ground and find myself in a full-on blizzard. Ok, MegaBus, you’re forgiven.
Philly ended up getting over two feet of snow that weekend, which did put a damper on the activities a little bit. It didn’t necessarily stop us from doing anything, but it did make it slightly less enjoyable and more difficult to travel around, but when all was said and done, it was fine.
However, I am beginning to think my travel in 2010 is cursed and causes freezing temperatures. I went to Orlando in January and they had record low temperatures. I go to Vermont and spend the day skiing on a freezing mountain. And now I go to Philly and cause a horrible blizzard. Perhaps I should stay put until spring.
This is a picture Danny (my friend and host for the weekend) and I took while walking around some of the historic sites in the city. And no, your eyes do not deceive you. Bossy Bear tagged along and I will share some of his pictures later this week.
