If… (Week 52)

This is week fifty-two in my personal “If… Project” in which I answer questions from the book “If… (Questions for the Game of Life)”

There are 125 pages of this book, each with four questions. I plan to take one page each week and answer the questions as thoroughly and honestly as I am able. In addition, I invite you to answer the questions along with me, whether it be in the comments section, your own personal blog, or just within your own thoughts.

Perhaps in doing so, we will get to know each other better, but even more importantly, get to know ourselves better.

This week’s questions:

If you could be master chef in any restaurant in the world, where would you choose to cook?

I haven’t really had the pleasure of eating at the restaurants that probably most notable amongst the fine dining establishments, so I don’t really have a lot of personal experience from which to make an educated decision. In fact, my choice is a restaurant I’ve never actually eaten at personally, but rather one about which I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things. I would love to eat there sometime, but I feel as if it’s one of those restaurants that warrant a special occasion. I’ve always hoped someone would take me out on a special date night to this place and make a night of it, but as of yet that’s not yet happened. So, until someone does, or I have an occasion special enough to warrant it, I will remain waiting. And that restaurant is Candle 79 on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

If you could ensure that your child has one experience that you have had yourself, what would you want it to be?

Ooh. So many choices. But first I have to wonder where this child came from. I used protection, I swear!

I would love for my child to experience the arts, and in an even bigger capacity than I had growing up. I participated in bands, choirs, theatre, mime, etc. And was able to attend concerts, theatre, etc. But in the small town in which I grew up, the options were still vastly limited. I would want my child to have the same contact with the arts, but with many more chances to experience it and take part in it.

If you could have a free telephone line to any one person in the world, who would it be?

I’m not a big telephone person. At all. I use about 50 minutes per month on my calling plan, and most of that is used up checking voicemails. I’m much more of a text message person. I’ve just never really been a big phone person and my 5000 rollover minutes can testify to that. But I guess if I had to have a free line to anyone, the most beneficial one would be a free telephone line to my family. Maybe I’d actually talk to them more than I currently do.

If you could retract one lie you have told in your life, which would it be?

I don’t think I’ve told any HUGE lies that would really make that big of a difference if it were to be retracted. I could say that I would never have lied about being gay while I was growing up, but I don’t think that’s the case. I think my life would have been even more difficult had I told the truth, and really, my not being honest about it then didn’t really hurt anyone. Some could argue that it hurt me, but I don’t feel that way.

Those are my answers to this week’s questions. What are yours?

FreeStyle

There’s a show on HGTV called FreeStyle. I’ve never watched it, but from what I understand, the concept is that professional designers and decorators go into someone’s home and completely redo their room without spending any money. They repurpose pre-existing items and rearrange things.

Like I said, I’ve never seen the show, but I used that very concept today to do some FreeStyling of my very own.

In my bathroom I have a set of hooks that attaches over the door frame. I originally put it there to act as a towel rack, but I really don’t have a practical use for that sort of towel rack in my bathroom. I have enough hooks and racks already, and it was looking unsightly.

IMG_0001.JPG
I tried to figure out what else I could possibly use it for, when I realized that I have had the perfect use for it for a couple years now and had never realized it. I gathered up the items I needed and went to work.
I took a cardboard box that was ready to go out to the trash and traced the hook segment on it. I cut the cardboard out and with nothing more than some transparent tape, attached it behind the hooks to give myself a back piece to the item.

IMG_0002.JPG
From there, I went online and did a Google search for some images I wanted to use. This is part of the project where I broke the rules a teensy bit. The point is to spend no money at all, but after finding four pictures that would work for my project, I ran to the drugstore and printed them out. (Yes, I realize it’s technically illegal to use someone else’s image without their consent, but gimme a break. I’m not selling this thing for profit.) After getting back with prints in hand, I also traced them and cut them out.

IMG_0003.JPG
From that point, it got really easy. I attached some more transparent tape to the backs of the photographs, and mounted them onto the cardboard in the little windows made by the wires of the hooks.

IMG_0005.JPG
At this point I had my very own Marathon themed set of hooks. What could I possibly need with a Marathon themed set of hooks though?!
I now have a homemade and artistic way to display all of the Marathon medals I have earned over the past few years. Up until now they’ve just been sitting on tables or hanging from curtain rods. Major upgrade with this little apparatus!

So, barring the $1.16 I had to spend on printing up the pictures, I am considering this one successful FreeStyle!

If… (Week 51)

This is week fifty-one in my personal “If… Project” in which I answer questions from the book “If… (Questions for the Game of Life)”

If you had to die in one of history’s disasters, which one would you pick?

Ew. I don’t wanna die in any of history’s disasters! On one hand I would want it to be something quick and painless, so as to not suffer. But, there’s a perverse romanticism to being a victim of something like the Titanic sinking.

If you could take revenge on any person you have ever known, who would it be, why do they deserve it, and how would you do it?

You know, I’ve thought long and hard about this one, and maybe it’s because I’m just in a certain place in my life right now where I feel emotionally weakened, or maybe it’s because I’ve just grown up enough to realize that nobody does anything to me that I don’t allow them to do to me, but the thought of taking revenge on anyone just has absolutely no appeal to me. I think the best revenge is living a good life, so that’s what I would do.

If you were to perform in the circus, what would you do?

What WOULDN’T I do?! I would LOVE to be in the circus. But not a Ringling Brothers type of circus. I want to be in a Cirque du Soleil type of circus. And I honestly would have a horrible time settling on one thing I would want to do. Since I currently have no acrobatic skills, I would probably be assigned a clown role, and some of the funniest clowns I have ever seen are in Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai, so I would be honored to join those ranks. Were I able to do one of the actual stunts in the show, it would be impossible to pick. I would love to do Aerial Straps, Silks, Trampoline, all sorts of things.

Varekai Clowns

Aerial Straps

Trampoline

If you could master one type of cuisine, which would you choose?

Vegan, obviously.

Those are my answers to this week’s questions. What are yours?

This week’s questions:

If you were given $5,000 to spend in one store in the world, where would you do your shopping?

It would have to be a furniture store. I hate to say IKEA since it’s mostly on the cheaper end of things, but I could get a lot more for that amount of money if I went a little cheaper.

If you could steal one thing in the world, other than money, without getting caught, what would you take?

A brand new Toyota Prius. And it would be the silver pine mica colored one.

If you could be the lover of any person alive other than your current lover, who would you pick?

Oh for the love of all that is good and pure! I have already answered this question about 49 other times with just slight variations in wording. I’m not answering it again. Just go back and read some of the older questions and you’ll run into virtually this same question several times.

If you could have been a lover of any person in history, who would you choose?

Ditto.

If… (Week 49)

This is week forty-nine in my personal “If… Project” in which I answer questions from the book “If… (Questions for the Game of Life)”

If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you would do?

Pee.

And then I would buy membership in the Disney Vacation Club.

If you could have a secret listening device in any one room in the world, which room would you like it to be in?

I’ve spent a good deal of time trying to figure out what room I would want to be able to have this magical listening device in, and quite honestly, I can’t come up with a single thing. I’m sure there has to be one, but for some reason, nothing is coming to me.

A secret viewing device on the other hand? I got plenty of rooms I would put that thing in.

If you had to inhabit the body of someone you know personally while keeping your own mind, whose body would you take?

I guess the point of this question is to basically pick your friend with the hottest body, right? And I’m not really in the habit of seeing my friends naked to know just how nice, or not, their bodies are, so I’m not really sure how I am supposed to answer this one. I just did a once over of all of my friends on Facebook to see if anything jumped out at me, and while I’m sure everyone’s body is just fine, and in some instances better than my own, I didn’t really see any that blew me away to the point of wanting to give up my own in exchange for theirs. The only person I can think of would be the porn star I used to be good friends with. True, we haven’t spoken in years, but technically I do personally know him, and he’s got a very nice body, so I will choose his.

If you could be a member of any club or association in the world, what would it be?

The Mile High Club

If… (Week 48)

This is week forty-eight in my personal “If… Project” in which I answer questions from the book “If… (Questions for the Game of Life)”

This week’s questions:

If you could have been the architect of any one building in history, which building would you choose?

I think if I were to be an architect, the building would be very quirky and unique. So perhaps something like the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA.

winchester_mystery_house_san_jose_ca.jpg

If you could have directed any film in history, what movie would it be?

Call me crazy, but I wouldn’t pick a huge epic that critically acclaimed or even a deep, artsy indie flick. I’d much rather be a part of something like Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.

If you had to spend all of your vacations for the rest of your life in the same place, where would you go?

I kind of already do do that. Although I’ve gotta be honest. Lately I’ve really been itching to do more foreign travel. But since this question isn’t about that, I guess I’ll answer it with the current place I tend to do all of my vacationing. Orlando.

If you were stranded on a desert island and could have with you only one object you currently own, what would you take?

My Macbook Pro. And miraculously, this desert island would somehow get a wireless connection. It could happen.
